We’ve planned different snack stations for the Hamburg urban hike. They’re available for you to use, but you certainly don’t have to. Hikers on the 25 km route will pass 3, Hikers on the 40 km route will pass 4 snack stations, and those on the 55 km route will pass 5. We will send you exact coordinates for each of the stations before your hike via the Newsletter, as well as publish them here on the website. In addition, details on the stations (where they are and what will be offered) will be available at registration.
Each hiking route (25 km, 40km and 65 km) has been planned so that you can see lots of Hamburg. The hike doesn’t take you around
Hamburg but straight through the middle. However, as with all our organized hikes, you are required to observe all traffic laws and safety regulations.
You will begin at Vorhornweg and wind your way along the Hamburg sports arena, through the HSV mile and into the neighborhood of
Stellingen. From there you will head toward Hagenbecks Zoo in the Eimsbüttel neighborhood.
All groups continue along the outer and inner portion of the Alster river through Jungfernstieg to Hamburg city hall. At this point you’ll swing
toward the Elbe river through the new Hafencity area (passing the Elbphilharmonie concert hall), and go along the harbor through the
St. Pauli district. You’ll pass by the floating docks, and the 40 km and 55 km group will split from the 25 km distance for another extra leg under the Elbe river (through the original Elbe tunnel). Once the 40 km and 55 km group departs the tunnel, they will go through Steinwerder and Altenwerder to board the HVV ferry at Finkenwerder. After a short ferry ride through the harbor, the 55 km and 40 km group rejoins the 25 km route at Övelgönne and then continues along the riverfront through the Elbchaussee toward
Blankenese. You’ll pass through the Isernbrook and Lurup neighborhoods before hitting the finish line at Vorhornweg.
